sending large volumes of email with php
I've been searching for about 2 years for an efficient way to send large volumes of CUSTOMIZED email with php with no good results.....
The best way I've found to go ( non-cgi ) is to fopen a new php page for every X number of recipients to avoid timeouts ( and hosts that disallow the no-timeout function ) .....
Perl forks email sending so it doesn't time out... does anyone have a good suggestion for sending large volumes of email?

Run the script from the command line or crontab... you should always send email this way anyway. Imagine if your browser or computer crashed 1/2 way through sending an important message...
I think php can spawn processes too. Run another script in backticks and it should not wait for completion (or is it system() or exec()? I can never remember.)
