banner not showing up

hi there,

i have a very strange occurance happening, on one of my computers i can not see the banner div on a site i am working on, yet on all other computers i can see it. I can also see the banner when i test it locally, i have checked code and i just dont see what is wrong. I have also cleared my cache on the computer in question.

so any idea what might be happening?

Hi,

Your site seems to be down but the problem is more than likely your use of fixed positioning.

Code:

#banner {
	height: 131px;
	width: 780px;
	background: url(images/banner.jpg) no-repeat fixed center top;
	margin: 0px;
	padding: 0px;
}

All fixed positioning is in respect of the viewport and not the element it is placed in. Therefore a fixed image will only show in the element it is placed in when that element is over the position specified.

center top will be center top of the viewport and if your banner is anywhere else then it won't show (in good browsers). Ie doesn't understand fixed positioning properly which is why it shows in ie.

You probably don't want fixed anyway so remove it and see if that's what you wanted.

Hi Paul,

hmm, that did not fix it

The site is back up- and the problem is very strange, so iam thinking it is more my computer setting, but i was not sure. The site, with banner shows up finein IE, FF, Mozilla, Opera, on my dekstop, but then on my laptop- it is just not there on any of the browsers, so i can not seem to figure out what the problem is. The screen i attached previously shows what i see on any of the browsers on my laptop- no banner

any othe ideas?

Are you running Norton Internet Security on your laptop as it has an ad blocker apparently that will block images that are the same size as standard banners.

yep- and i ran a test where i turned off the security and i could see the banner...i wonder if i just change the size if that will do the trick- as i dont want to run the system without norton- any thoughts?
