    The 10 Commandments?

    Hello,

Came across this early yersterday and had a read of it. Just was wondering if there is anyone who agrees, or disagrees with these commandments, and if they have any influence on how you design.

Basically, just to get everyone viewpoint I suppose

I don't know if the people on that list agreed. And there were 2+ lists anyway. I find those types of lists not very helpful. They are complex concepts boiled down to a few not very memorable words. My problem is that they are concepts you learn by living them -- not reading them.

Yes, but do you have a top 10 list of similar concepts? Or maybe a favourite top 10 list of unhelpful lists?

I was aware of some of the principles described, but I found the link via a search, for a better term, or a more insightful description of those principles, and how they can be applied

Maybe I need to dig deeper, I don't know...

I think guys that have time to sit around and come up with and argue over cute top 10 lists probably do so because they have to much time on their hands (i.e., they're not doing much coding)

I probably have 10 pieces of important OOA or OOD info that I have learned and integrated into my development habits, but I don't know if I could make a snappy one-liner out of any of them. Conversely when I read those list they are very abstract and don't stick with me.

    Umm...

i.e., they're not doing much coding
Maybe they just don't need to do as much coding as the rest of us, beause they're working smarter; not harder?

Maybe there is something in them cute lists, something that they know, but the rest of us don't? There was a reasoning behind me starting the thread btw

I think the list is quite insightful, personally. #1 is particularily important, IMO, and the rest follows from that. There's just #7 that I don't understand (what's a DAG?), but it seems to tie in with the previous 3, which are more less different aspects of the same concept.

In case you haven't read his book, I highly recommend it. It seems like a somewhat scattered outpuring of his knowledge, rather than a single coherent domain like DDD or PoEAA, but it's still a book that contains an incredible amount of useful concepts that are very well explained.

Robert Martin's list has been refined for a decade and his book is excellent. Here is an overview of some of his principles with links to older articles describing each one.

    Directed Acyclic Graph.

Directed - each edge has a direction.
    Acyclic - contains no loops.

Can look like a tree, or hierarchy structure.

Which I suppose, in this context, means that a released component can't depend on something that depends on the component?

    Hi.

Exactly. If you ship one you have to ship the other, and vice versa. They are basically one component, not two.

    The book's excellent.
