Is Yahoo Directory Worth Your While ($299)?

Just wondering before I drop $299 on one text link, has anyone seen benifits worth while through Yahoo's Directory. Through SEO or just plain traffic from people going through Yahoo.

Or is your money spent better on other marketing?

I know this will depend on what type of site you are running but just wondering a general thought on this.

For many sites I think it is worth it. All ecommerce sites will benefit, and content sites in a very profitable niche.

I thought google dislikes paid links though.

They dislike people paying for links with the express intent of manipulating their SERPs. Paying to be added to a directory is common and acceptable.

If the site is relevant I have no problem with people buying links to manipulating the serps. If you are not high in the serps, you wont get traffic and you wont receive backlinks, so starting off, do what you can within reason.

Will it really help you at all with SERPs when yahoo links to you as encoded link.

Google can follow that redirect so the link is worth it from an SEO point of view.

And Yahoo is so large and heavily trafficed they can justify the higher cost.

I just did a look to see how well represented my site is in Yahoos directory, and I discovered I have 24 pages listed in 24 different Yahoo directories. All were "volunteer" listings. Only a few pages were really key pages for my site, but that's still pretty cool. I was thinking of trying to submit my site to some specific directories, but maybe I'll wait.

I think what I need to do is talk with someone who is really good at picking the best directory to suggest Yahoo to list a site in.
