Quite possibly, but if this thread goes of at a tangent (as it has) people may stop checking it.
Also, not nearly as professional.
Anyway, good luck with the book.
WebDevPortal, that is a nice idea. You know that devshed actually have cover sheet for that sort of thing? Looks quite good.

What he had in mind was probably a page where people who read about the book's impending release could type in their email address to be added to a simple database of people that we would notify when it came out.
There will be plenty of fanfare at the actual release. For now, we just wanted to let you all know what to expect.Kevin Yank

Sorry to announce that we won't be able to launch the book as planned on Monday. The proof copy that was on its way to the SitePoint offices in Melbourne for final approval was caught up in the air transportation chaos that ensued following the terrible events in NYC and Washington on the 11th.
We're trying to find out where that proof copy got to, and at the same time we've ordered another to be sent by the quickest available means now that flights over the US have been restored. As soon as we get it and assuming everything is a-OK we'll launch the book. Believe me -- we're as anxious to get it out and in your hands as you are to see it!Kevin Yank

We're going to have a fixed shipping price for orders anywhere in the world. As for discounts to SitePoint members, we're only selling the book on SitePoint so you could consider the discount built in.

Why not sell it at Amazon? The world needs more (good) PHP books. And I'd bet it'd have a ton of reviews by happy SitePoint members helping it sell.

It's something we may consider in time, but for the moment we're interested in seeing how well it does as a direct sale item. Around the office we refer to it as 'the grand experiment'.

True, but unfortunately the books are all being printed in the US, so we are going to be taking a loss on shipments to particularly remote locations.

I thought I followed a link in your author info from an article to the book's site.. was this an error and was removed (because it's not officially out yet)? Or am I just imagining it.. I know the URL of the book and the order form and everything looks up and running and I thought I got there from your author info.

Yes, everything is set up and ready to go, but any orders placed through the system now will not be processed, as we have yet to throw the 'launch' switch on our ecommerce system. The link in my author info was mistakenly published this past Monday, when we originally intended to launch the book, and was subsequently taken away.
