Does vBulletin send a log when you install it?

I heard that when you install vBulletin, it sends an anonymous log of the website, IP, and every other little thing you can imagine to vBulletin...

    Is this true ?

I just took a look through the install.php file that comes with the 2.0.3 release, and, according to this search facility, the mail() function is not used anywhere. I guess that means all is cool.

It doesn't send anything on the install. However that doesn't mean we don't know when someone is using a pirate copy

There is? Wow. That's impressive, though I have no clue on how it's done. I don't suppose ya'll will tell me either, so maybe I'll have to figure it out for myself.

When I had a look at the code (a few months ago) I noticed there was a 1x1 pixel picture coming from the jelsoft or vbulletin domain. Can't remember much about it, though. All I remember is that it was in the control panel section.

We're using it on our companies intraserver, after installing it, noticed it tried to "call home" from the server logs on the firewall. May have to check it again as it sounds like a possible backdoor.

Could've saved me some time by telling me what file it was in. It's my guess that $ratval is basically the variable that holds the HTML for the image on the vBulletin server. Could be wrong...didn't look at it for very long. If I do find out for sure, though, I certainly won't post it here...I like Jelsoft and don't want to assist piracy. I'm just mentioning a vauge theory here.
