Mysql - Beginner Questions - Viewing Tables

This should all be very basic according to tutorials i've read...
I am using the command SHOW TABLES in the command line, but constantly getting errors. I've tried this command in every folder...'

..This example shows it w/out a semi-colon, but I have tried that also.


Any help would be great

hmm... I'm not totally positive, but it may have something to do with the "data>" part. I think that it's only supposed to be "mysql>" when it's ready to recieve commands. I'm not sure though

You'll need to login to the mysql console before issuing mysql commands.

type mysql -u username -p from the same place you were, or else cd into the mysql bin folder and issue it.
