User Management Script with PHP/MySQL - AAAARRRRGGHHH

Before I start my plea, let me point out 2 things.

    Point 1.
I am ignorant when it comes to PHP and MySQL

    Point 2.
    Always remember point 1.

Now that this out of the way, I tried and somewhat successfully installed PHP and MySQL as per Kevin Yank's guide. I say 'somewhat', to the extent of my knowledge (Remember Point 1 and 2), it is working.

BTW, our website is hosted on a Raq 3 server.

Currently, I am trying to setup the User Script so that visitors can add themselves to a Member-Only area but to no avail. I am about to throw my keyboard and computer out of my office but as I usually tell people the error usually comes from the user, so, in advance Mea Culpa.

Basically, the script does not give me any errors but it does not do anything. I even tried with just keeping exactly Kevin's wording, just touching the MySQL host, user and password but nothing changed. My database is called 'sessions' and the table I used is called 'user' and is basically as described by Kevin.

You can check out the file at: http://www.monin.com/flavorclub/index.php
I have an html version of the different files located at: http://www.monin.com/flavorclub/index.html

Right now I feel like so if you do not mind, I am going for a drink! Maybe two or three or four...

    Thanks, any help is welcomed.

    Olivier

Well, first of all, your PHP is wrong, for example:

    You Have: <form method=post action="<?=$PHP_SELF?>">
    And it gives you: <form method=post action="">

So the script won't be submitted. You need to change it to:

    <form method="post" action="<? echo "$PHP_SELF"; ?>">

Then your SQL query is wrong...
Then stop using those <?=$newemail?>, it's not ASP :-), it needs to be <? echo "$newemail"; ?>

I would help ya out, but don't have time right now, may be a bit later.

    Pweb,

Thank you for looking over it but after countless hours, I found why the different PHP scripts were not working.

The PHP installed on our Raq server is screwed up and some functions do not work...

Maybe I am not that ignorant.

    Thanks again.

    Olivier
