https post -- Do I have to use cURL?

I'm trying to post a form to my credit card processor, but it must be done via https obviously. I use Snoopy and like it, but it doesn't support SSL on its own.

I've been reading through the forums and it seems every one is suggesting cURL, but I occasionally see someone say they can do it with only https commands.

I prefer not to install cURL unless I really have to (call me lazy), but if I have to which piece do I need to download? I've seen binary, src, and devel downloads. Any good articles on doing the install?

    Thanks,
    Bernn

Actually, the lazy way IS installing cURL. The other way would be writing your own script to handle HTTPS authentication, AND THAT WOULD BE HARD. :-)

Not sure about which package to install, though. Are you on your own server?
