    vbulletin problem with plesk

I can't get my avatar to work with plesk mandling everything. On my other server without plesk it works fine.

It just won't be able to upload the attachment or images to my designated folder in my server.

Now this is the solution vBulletin support told me to follow

PLESK will put a PHP directive of open_basedir into your httpsd.conf file.

You will need to remove that directive for every domain on your server before file uploading will work through PHP

Just edit it out of the httpsd.conf file in:
    /usr/local/plesk/apache/conf

    and restart apache
    /usr/local/plesk/apache/bin/httpsdctl restart
(Read this thread for more details)

Do you recommend this? if not what should I do?

It is a web-based administration script that forces you to use their version of PHP, MySQL and a modified version of Apache. It also requires that you use qmail which while a powerful mail server is a bear to administer.

If you choose to uninstall Plesk, you are left with Linux. It will delete everything else because it only allows software to be stored in its sub-directories.

I was actually the one that came up with that information and it is the only way to get those features working with Plesk installed. The admin for the server I worked on (www.hystersisters.com) with Plesk, decided that the problem with Plesk is Plesk itself and decided to remove the system from her server. This was over the Hosting Companies objections and they said they could never support her again.. She still did it. After Plesk was removed, MySQL, PHP and Apache recompiled and install, backups restored, there hasn't been anymore related problems.

So why use plesk? If there are so many downsides, why bother?
