    accepting credit cards into mysql

i am doing some work on a non profit site that accepts membership paid via Credit Cards. the current process is to have the user complete a form complete with the CC #, store the number on a flat file (pl), and then read the entry upon reciept of an eMail.

i want to move them from this process into a mysql table with some encription. my isp (and their future isp - but they don't know it yet) provides both public.html and secure.html

my question is seeking suggestions to move them from a system as secure as an electronic billboard on the Ginza to a bit of security for the customer.

my initial thought is to use something like an md5 but how to reverse the process so the staff in the office can process the number.

    and thoughts, refs, directions.

    thanks in advance

You really don't want to store the credit card numbers, there is always a security risk whatever methods you employ to keep the data safe!

MD5 is not reversable, would you have to use your own algorithm to be able to decrypt the data yourself?

ok. browser to secure.html via SSL
info to mysql table (not in secure.html path)
then access to mysql limited via .htaccess

U may not be allowed to store credit card numbers. I will recommend you to ask your legal advicer about this subject before getting some legal actions against you.
