inktomi paid inclusion - worth the $$?

    hi,

is it worth paying the $45 total to get my 2 sites listed into inktomi? Do you think it would be worth it as 1 site is UK only. The other I guess would definately be worth it. But as i'm not making any money off it right now (and probably never will!), i dont know..

any ideas? I see inktomi only partners with one UK engine, and that is espotting (which is a PPC, and already has heavy competition on my keywords) - Thats from its webpage, but are there any others?

    cheers

You'll also get into Hotbot, AOL, MSN (after directory listings, pah!), GoTo and others (and their regionals in the UK). I think it is very worth it, as long as you are not in a competitive area.
If you are in a competitive area, you should maybe think about something else, because engines that take data from Inktomi do not tend to put Inktomi results first - and you'll be at the back of the queue, more or less. The same using Ink to get into MSN - you'll get in all right- after directory listings, which often means you won't even get a sniff of a top fifty rank. (So, don't bother with phrases that are already well covered by MSN directory)
But I use Inktomi inclusion a lot and if you understand the limitations and can work with them, not against them, it is very good.

Nope, the ones you mentioned use Looksmart and Dmoz.org, I wouldn't spend $1 on Inktomi

Lonny - you are, of course, entitled to your opinions. Here's Inktomi's partners page:

Everything in my post is correct.

thanks for your help guys. not quite sure what to do )

I think i'll wait till ive got the 30 from site revenue, then plough it back into expansion onto inktomi instead of waste it on something worthless, which is my usual spending strategy

My traffic has increased significantly since signing up with Inktomi. At 45 dollars, it sure beats paying for GoTo or any other PPC, which can drain your money in a day, if you let it. If you are waiting to make $45 to spend on Inktomi, think about how much you could make if you doubled your traffic. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money.

    heh, a good point )

hell, i'll just go for it. its not like its that much money anyway.

another questions : with inktomi, they refresh every 48 hours, so does that mean if I do some keyword optimisations, I can see the results in 2 days? (if my rank changes in the partner sites)

I'd pay Inktomi. As they update your pages every 48 hours, if you don't get a good ranking on the search engines, you can make adjustments until you do. Well worth $45, unlike paying Looksmart $200 to be stuck at the bottom of the category (other people do a lot better on Looksmart, this is just my view)
