Ways to promote affiliate program?

My company just started an inhouse afiliate program. What are some of the best ways to promote it? I am already mentioning it in our newsletter and have links on the site. What else can I do?

Refer-it stinks. I have about 4 of those programs that I am running.

Search engine submission is critical. Also look around the net for some affiliate directories. Do a search on Yahoo! or Dogpile for 'affiliate directory' and submit to some of those pages.

As mentioned, get listed in the affiliate directories. Off the top of my head, I can only think of AssociatePrograms.com.

Try recruiting relevant websites. Every now and then I'll receive an email or phone call from some new company offering an affiliate program. You might want to give that a try.
