Mine stays on vibrate...ALL THE TIME, unless it's charging and then I'll turn the ringer on (to the plain old ring). Why should I bother someone else with my phone ringing? I think it's rude.

Let me also say that people who leave their phone on (and use it) during a movie should have their nipples ripped off. That is one of the rudest things that anyone can do.

Oh and by the way (to you Brits)...keep in mind that Nokia phones are not quite as common over here. There aren't very many types of phones over here that allow you to "add" rings to the phone.

I bet you that if America had GSM, and therefore were able to use Nokia phones, then mobile phones would become as popular there as they are over here or in Europe. Nokia's fancy covers and ringtones seem to have drawn the masses They are quite nifty phones, but there's a lot of people that still have a lot to learn about phone etiquette.

I don't like cell phones. Sorry, if i'm stepping on the style.
My philosophy, when i'm mobile I don't want to talk. When i'm not mobile, i've got a phone and answering machine nearby.

When required, it will be on vibrate.
But vibrating battery scares me sometimes..

    And I don't like the fancy snap-ons.
I still prefer to original cover for my Nokia.

mmj and creole, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm in America and I can use a Nokia phone. Nearly everyone I know has a Nokia, and nearly every company I've worked for supplied Nokia phones. Anyway, my ring tone is the standard Nokia ring tone, at very low volume. No offense to anyone whose ring tone plays a song, but that's just plain annoying. Why people want to listen to Bach on their tinny cell phone speaker is beyond me.

I think that the advantage of having the chance to have your own ringtone is that you have more of a probability of recognising your phone when it rings!

Mine plays the theme tune to Angel.

Not really, in aus its hard to hear a phone now days with out a personal tone... and you still get the morons on the bus or train who sit there daydreaming for the 5 minutes there phone is ringing because they think its somebody elses...

The 1 thing i hate the most is the adds on tv that use ring tones in them... i mean we here them all day everyday, and then they shove them on the TV... whats the go there???

I was just stating that in America, there are substancially less mobile phone users compared to countries such as Australia, the UK, and especially Scandinavian countries.

I was under the impression that Nokia only made GSM phones, and that GSM was unavailable in the USA.

Also - what is the 'standard' Nokia ringtone? Every model that comes out has a different set of 30 or 40 ringtones - I don't think there's any one ringtone that is the same on all phones. Could you describe the ringtone you are referring to (OneChance)?

    Nokia tune. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I don't have a problem with ringtones at all when people are actually ringing the phone what anoys me is when people are flicking through their tones or showing a friend them on a bus or train. Not everyone wants to hear the 30odd tones you have.

There seems to be a real obsession with cell phones over there.
I'm picturing everyone walking or driving around with the airways filled with many variations of hideous cell phone speaker noises.

Over here (almost) everyone carries one, some even have 2 or more (pretty rare) of them. Also sending text messages is very popular.

Not a very good country to live if you hate cellphones.

I read somewhere that Finns have the highest percentage of mobile phoen owners than anywhere else in the world. Don't Nokia have a big research center over there?

Right. Fresh Gear featured the beautiful Nokia centre once. And almost everyone in the streets will be holding a Nokia and SMS-ing.

SMS is a big thing here too.

I just got my nokia 3310, it is quite nice
I have the james bond ring tone on level 1 (and vibrate) but i'm very carful to set it to silent if I ever go anywhere public. Besides from being rude, everyone looks at you

Nokia is VERY popular here in Australia.

And an explaination about trigger happy TV? Well it is funny program with little comody skits out in public (like candid camera and the like....) On of the skits that this guy does it to get a HUGE phone (like half as big as him) and go into a place such as an art gallery and yell really loudly somthing like

HELLO, YES I'M IN THE ART GALLERY

It cracked me up when i saw it.

That was when he creeped up behind the little old lady and nearly gave her a heart-attack

It's sounds stoopid but everytime people hear the Nokia Tune now - they are inclined to scream "HELLOOOO?!"

Anyone know where you can truly get free ringtones?

I have a nokia 5165 phone, and there's no ring tone creator. And all the ones I try to "order" / download don't work.

    Any ideas?

What models of phone are you referring to?

Hang on I'll get to the bottom of this
