Are my keystrokes being recorded?

I'm suspicious that my boss has installed a keystroke recorder on my computer. Not that I have anything to hide, but I do send emails to my family and friends, which contain personal and private information sometimes.

I am on a mac using OS X Tiger - does anyone know how to find out if I do have a keystroke recorder on my computer?

Heh, yeah, there are a lot of detectors for windows, but I can't find any mac ones. I have found a bunch of recorders though, but most of them are installed in a way where everything can be named with arbitrary names, making log files or the program itself difficult to find.

Anyone else?

What if you typed random words at home and saved it as a text file. Take it to work, browse through them and use your mouse to copy/paste and compose your letter. No key strokes required. A little painful, but sneaky!

I know some of my firends have screen captures at random intervals.

Haha, I don't need to e-mail that bad It is frustrating thinking that stuff that I have e-mailed to my girlfriend might have been read by my boss though.

I have seen software that does the screen capture thing as well. I've searched for images and text files created in the last couple days, but came up with nothing - but these programs usually encrypt and rename logged text and images so I'm not surprised that I didn't find anything.

Hah, if it were me, I'd start randomly worshipping your work and boss (i.e. sending your girlfriend an e-mail telling her how great your boss is) just for sarcasm's sake

Isn't there a way to check what processes are running on a mac? Woudln't a keystroke recorder be in breach of some sort of privacy law these days..

keystroke?well mine has me boss eyes all the time!he's watching every word we type like we're hiding something that he needs to monitor all our tasks...isnt that like a violation to privacy too..?

I'm fairly sure that while you are at work they are allowed to do that.
You are using their equipment and on their time.
They certainly have the right to check through email logs.

Yeah, pretty much all companies do that here. I guess it's legal, because there are a lot of law suit happy people here.

Only downside is the sacking part, a minor side-effect but at least you would know!

Well for one, he's a super control freak. He's very obsessive about what goes on in the office. He's constantly going around pushing in chairs, making sure everyone's GUI is the same color, adjusting dimmer switches on lights, etc. etc.

The other thing is that I already know he reviews my web page history. I set this feature so that it wouldn't record the history, and the next day the feature had been set back. Really all I do on the web is read the news a little, download stock photos for projects, and post on software forums... it's not like I have anything to hide. It's just annoying.

I also changed the interface colors one day (on a mac you can either use "blue" or "graphite," The difference is miniscule) and again, the next day he had changed them back.

Um, so yeah, that's what makes me suspicious. And no, I'm not at work right now

you sure it's not some type of startup script or whatever to revert the settings? When I worked a fairly big support company, everything was reset on every bootup... we also had screen caps taken, but it was easy to get around once you found the proper application...
