    vbulletin ??

    hi, I've installed vbulletin lite and I'm now considering to take it to the next level with the full version.
    I'd like to know if with these server settings (online.fr) I won't have any problems.
    Space : 50 mb (10% for the forum)
    98 Mb/s of international bandwidth
    80 Mb/s of Peering
    Php 3

    I have 2000 visitors per day on my site but I don't expect more than 500 members...
    Also I'd like to know if the upgrade is easy and how you do it..;
    thanks for the feedback

    Have you considered upgrading to PHP 4?

    I agree on the PHP4

    And also, 50 megs is not a lot of space for a decent sized VB.

    I can't upgrade myself cause it depends on my host, I'm with a very cheap one with limited options ($35 per year).
    Do you think I should still go with vbulletin then?.
    I tried other free php scripts like xmb but got a lot of bugs and hosted board like ez suck because of annoying pop ups, any advice with another board? (php or remotely hosted...)

    thanks

    You may want to switch to a better host. There is one (Cedant Web Hosting) that offers good plans starting at $7.95 per month. I use the Advanced plan, $12.95 per month, and I have found that very useful. Support is excellent, and the prices are reasonable.

    Check it out: http://www.cedant.com (note that this is NOT an affiliate link.)

    No need to switch hosts. PHP 4 is only recommended by vbulletin. It is made to work in PHP 3 also. says so in the manual http://www.vbulletin.com/manual/index.html

    Make sure you have at the very least PHP 3.0.9 and the higher you can get the better. Also you must have MySQL 3.23.33, and you must have the following settings set like this:
    track_vars -> On
    magic_quotes_gpc -> Off
    magic_quotes_sybase -> Off
    register_globals -> Enabled
    This is not an all-inclusive list but should be most of what you need.

    hmmm... i wonder if a host that still has PHP 3.0.9 would have MySQL 3.23.33? LOL

    why the need for track_vars AND register_globals? doesn't it use one or the other but not both?

    Anyone since one as good as this in asp?

    I love this vbulletin. The problem is that my host only gives me asp. I kind of want to stick with asp. If I could have both well the better. Has anyone seen one as good as this one in asp?

    Thanks

    Kind of off topic in a way, but as a customer of affordable host (www.affordablehost.com), I can only praise them. They have some of the best plans I've seen, but more importantly, they have the best technical support staff I know of. They don't have the extra things like a control panel of some sort, but it's not really needed. Great Price and Great Support!

    Boy, I sound like a walking advertisement for them
