    hmm...huh? so if its taken from $sub_cat1, did you do something like

    $sub_cat = $sub_cat1;

    ??????
    else how is the script going to find which row has sub_cat equals $sub_cat when $sub_cat is empty???

    PHP Code:
    $catagory_id=$mycat["catagory_id"];
    You have not got a field called catagory_id in your table, is it supposed to be catagory?

    What is the answer to my question?

    I think the main problem is your where clause

    wow. thanks. additional help. lol
    yep..by illimination, WHERE clause is deifnitely the problem.
    $sub_cat isn't returning a value.

    and richi, i recieved your email. but i think there's no need to read it.
    now..gotta read this carefully.

    you declared your variable $sub_cat1 from your input fields. good. but you forgot to declare your $sub_cat variable. hence the reaosn why your WHERE clause is not working.

    do you finally understand what i'm saying?

    He should be using sub_cat_id in the where clause, but he is not using it in his script.

    This is making my head hurt

    Some problems:

    1) catagory_id does not exist in the table

    2) update sub_cat set should be update catagory set

    3) The sql_cat code does not work, should be something like this I think

    PHP Code:
    $sql_cat mysql_query("SELECT * FROM catagory") or die(mysql_error());

    echo
    "<select name=\"catagory1\">";

    while (
    $mycat mysql_fetch_array($sql_cat) ) {

    extract($mycat);

    echo
    "<option value=\"$catagory1\">$sub_cat_id . $catagory</option>";
    }

    echo
    "</select>"
    But, the ID will not get sent this way.

    i need to change the sub_cat, the name, so i used as value, and the sub_cat is uniq name, like the sub_cat_id !

    the catagory_id is exist in another table, and when i update ill update the catagory in another tabel, subcat table !
    there no problem with catagory`s selection, the problem in the subcat table, or in the where term !
