    Netscape Compatability Troubles

    hey guys. im nearing the completion of the designing of my site, but i ran into a little problem. i have a background image for a table. then the table is split into 3 rows, and in netscape, the background image starts all over again for each row. this can't happen because the image is a perfect fit. how can i keep this from happening? if you can't explain it but have to take a look, just say so and ill pm you the url. i want to keep the template secure until it is released. thanks!

    Try doing a nested table...

    <table background="yourpic.gif" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0"><tr>
    <td><table width="100%"><tr>
    <td>first row</td>
    </tr><tr>
    <td>second row</td>
    </tr><tr>
    <td>third row</td>
    </tr></table></td>
    </tr></table>

    Just use the outer table for your background image. The inner table is the current one you have going already. Add in whatever properties you have for it.

    I am guessing that the problem is using N4. It is setup to start a background image in each cell when IE did it correctly to cover all of the table area. I don't know how N6 does it yet.

    try using <table width="100%" border="0" cellpaading="0" cellspacing="0" background=""> to your nested table

    The only other alternative would be to put the image into an image editor and splice it into 3 smaller images (one would go into each row as the background).

    Perhaps someone else will post soon with another solution.

    russ, when i did that, the outer table's bg didn't show either. i ended up with the actual background of the page (well actually it was the color of an even LARGER table)

    try putting the backgroung of the outer table into the td tag that surrounds the nested table with the null background

    it's the bgcolor in your outline table, i substituted your violet.gif for it, but you could just make one that's 333333 grey. sorry about the tabs, but it helps me follow other people's tables.

    Use a transparent GIF as the backgrounds for your cells.

    huh?? that script didn't work... i think you were looking at the wrong table. and i tried the transparent gif. netscape doesn't like them and shows them white.

    sorry geiger, the only problems i could see (at least with js/css enabled-there were others with it disabled) were the undeline area and your bottom navigation area. the code i modified fixed those (for ver 4.6 at least), but i must have misunderstood what you were asking.

    How about putting some sample online so we can see exactly what's wrong? Because the transparent GIF trick works for me.
