    Problem with ruby182-15.exe installer

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with the ruby182-15.exe installer for windows. I've d/l'd it onto my xp pro machine at work but when it gets to the 'Choose install location' page the 'Install' button is greyed out. I have tried different locations but no change and I have enough space (41.3mb req and 13.3gb avail). I have also d/l'd the 182-14 installer and I have the same problem. I can install it on my home machine so I'm guessing my work machine is missing a .dll or something like that to make the installer work. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

According to ONLamp, this is a common bug. They say that pressing back and then forward should fix your problem. Hope it helps.

I don't know what dll this is referring to, but I've literally just installed ruby myself on my university account, and I had an issue with readline.dll when I loaded irb. If this is the issue, then unless use use the functionallity of readline, it's just a pain more than anything. You can get a copy of the file from

    http://whytheluckystiff.net/ruby/dis...so-for-1.8.zip

Just wack it anywhere in the DLL search path, so ruby\bin, or system32 etc will do.

Oh, on side note, you work pretty much down the road from where I used to work! (Used to work further towards town, however moved to Newcastle about 2 weeks ago). So are you looking into teaching Ruby or Rails at B'mouth then. Certainly, I heard that some of the 2nd IS students are going to get taught it I think this year.

    Hi,

Thanks Sweatje I tried Instant rails and it worked fine :-)

MiiJaySung no I'm not looking to teach it at BU. I'm just trying to keep up-to-date and I'm finding both Ruby and Rails interesting enough for some detailled study. I may use it for some student dissertations though.

    Thanks again for the help,
