    Saving Outlook Express E-mails

    Hello,

I did a search at the Microsoft Help Site, but I wanted to see if anyone else had some ideas on this.

I'm going to be using a new computer soon and I want to transfer all my e-mails to it. I use Outlook Express, obviously. I can't go to each e-mail and save them individually, that would take too much time.

I know of the "Export" option. From my understanding, this exports the e-mails so that I can read them from Outlook.

But I still don't understand how I can save the e-mails so that I can burn them to a CD and then transfer them to my new computer.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

you could change your options so the emails are left on the server and then forward them to yourself. not a very elegant solution tho..

The best way would be to change the store folder and then copy the store folder to disk, CD, internet, whatever. To do this, go tools: options: maintenence and click "Store Folder". The rest is self explanitory.

If you'd rather not do that, you can hunt down your current Store folder and copy it.

When you have the store folder copied to your new computer, just run the import wizard and choose the folder. Or, you can change the store folder in the new computer to the folder where you have the copied store folder.

    if you are using Win2k
go to : Documents and Settings > your username > Local Settings
    > Identities

You will find 1 or more numbers . open both in one of them you will find OUTLOOK Express
That's where your messages are saved

[edit : if you are using any other Windows search for Identities and you will find it inside it ]

The directory mahmoud was talking about for win9x users should be C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{3B3E0D0B-E908-4BD8-8156-554C30DBE0D8}\Microsoft\Outlook

Here are some links to the Microsoft Knowledgebase (Incase you missed any). It should answer all your questions too...

    *Jaw drop*

THANK YOU Neil! I obviously have lost whatever search skills I had, because I didn't find any of those articles.

I knew asking here would point me in the right direction. Let's hope I get this right...
