Family Emergency

Earlier today my father went in for an Angigram and possible Angioplasty surgery.

An hour ago, we found out that the existing damage is to severe to allow a simple Angioplasty surgery. Instead they are going to be doing at least one arterial bypass and possibly others.

Because of this, I will be away for at least 48 hours and don't think I will have computer access during this time.

My condolences to you and your family while your father goes through tough times. My grandmother had to go into the hospital in the middle of my vacation as she had a detached retina. Times are always trying in such circumstances.

Seeing their loved ones in a trying situation is a difficult thing that most people go through at one point or another during their lives.

Wayne, my thoughts are with you all the way on this one.

At the beginning of the year my Dad had a triple heart bypass - they wanted to perform an angioplasty op' on him too but again the damage was too severe. We did all the usual things: panicked in the months running up to it in case they didn't operate on time; panicked when he went in for the op'; worried after that he wouldn't take things easy like he was supposed to.......

Anyway, within 10 weeks of his operation he was back on his 1100cc motorbike and back into an active lifestyle. Oh, and he's 67, so he's no spring chicken if you get my drift!

Thanks for all the wishes. The surgery was performed on Wednesday and he is recovering. He will be home tomorrow.

Unfortunately he will have to retire from his law enforcement career now because of state law but overall he is doing good.

Wayne, that IS good news. And I think it is good news he is retiring he can enjoy life now without the pressures of work. Who know, maybe he can be one of our advisors now he has a bit mroe free time eh?

Just saw this. God bless your dad for a full and speedy recovery, Wayne.

My father had his first hear attack in 1965. At the time, the advice and treatment were far different than today. "Don't strain or exert yourself" was the general prescription. Shortly thereafter the medical community began to realize the need to strengthen the cardiovascular system through exercise. My dad's health, attitude, and quality of life improved greatly. He died in 1979 - NOT from any problem with his heart, but rather sleep apnea (the brain "forgets" to send out a signal to breathe while you're asleep).

You father's experience may seem like a nightmare now, but with the changes in lifestyle the doctors will likely recommend, and the greater attention paid to his health, he may not only live a longer life, but also enjoy a better quality of life.

Hang in there... it WILL get better.

Any update on your father?

He is doing fine. He came home from the hospital today. They had kept him for a longer time because of a problem with the oxygen saturation in his blood.

Starting tomorrow he has to walk 1/2 a mile a day to start getting his strength up. He will probably start talking to his union steward and the union lawyers next week so he can start preparing the paperwork needed for a 48/50 medical retirement. He also has to go to the Veteran's Administration Hospital for a physical so the U.S. Marines can officially disable him as well.

All in all he is doing good. He will have to get used to staying at home and not chasing criminals all day. However, he is going to pursue a hobby making custom furniture so we will see how that goes. He also might start a speaking career, we just have to get his website back up and online and restore what was lost when Tripod deleted it.

Glad to hear your dad's at home and well on the mend, Wayne. As I said before, my dad had a triple heart-by-pass at the beginning of the year, so I know exactly what it's like trying to slow an active man down!! All my dad could think about was getting back on his motor-bike!
