That is great, indeed. It's always encouraging news to hear an Internet company make a profit in this day and age, and also because Google is my favorite search engine.

Yeah that is good news, google is really one of my favorite internet companies. They have industry-leading technology, a great attitude, and a very usable website; I think they definitely deserve a profit.

Google is THE site that I visit most, and the google toolbar is great! Google is definetly the best thingy on the internet, and I would be very sad if that was a business model that didn't work.

They're also very smart at making money. No banner ads.. and two different not-so-intrusive ways to advertise. Their AdWords program can drive some decent traffic..

Adwords can cost as little as $25, but you pay by impression and not click-through. I can't speak for traffic the amounts range, but right now I'd say all our campaigns pull in a min. 2% CTR, some 3%.. extremely good.

a $25 CPM campaign with a 3% CTR results in a cost of 83.33 cents per visitor

in contrast you can advertise on goto for as little as 5 cents a visitor.

Not to say advertising on google is bad, but if you're paying that much per visitor you really need to be an ecommerce site and make a sale off it, that rate isn't feasible for content sites to pay.

I agree that google adwords are not too great compared to goto placement, even though they are great compared to banners. I would really like to advertise on google, but I belive the adwords need a little more prominent placing to be worth it.
