Netscape "background URL and Repeat" problem

Greetings,

I have run into a problem that I haven't been struggling with for a while, and have no clue why it is and how to fix it. I have a background image that I wish to place in a cell of a table, and have it repeated across the width of the cell. The attribute below shows how I've done this:

background: URL('/images/prbox_border_t.gif') repeat-x;

I was under the impression that Netscape 4+ supports this attribute since I've been able to have it work on Netscape before, and for this reason I never checked it, and it is working fine on IE. To my surprise, I found that Netscape shows the background of the specific cell in black. Thus, everywhere where I've included the style or class tag, the cell is black and doesn't show a repeat, or even the image itself for that matter.

I've tried many other ways of approaching the situation in the hopes that I'd be able to sort it out, but have had no luck what so eva!

Could anyone provide some advice? Maybe it's just the version of Netscape that I am using?

Should it be

background-image:url('/images/prbox_border_t.gif');

This is what I use on one of my pages...

background : #ffffff url(images/picture.gif) repeat;

Differences being I added in a color, don't use quotes, and don't have the starting slash. I also have the word URL in lowercase and non repeated style. Perhaps try this for your page...

background: #ffffff url(images/prbox_border_t.gif) repeat-x;

And see how it goes.

background-repeat: repeat-x;
background-color: #FFFFFF;

or

background: #FFFFFF url(/images/prbox_border_t.gif) repeat-x;

The above is according to CSS1 and CSS2 standard.

I've noticed something while I was trying to sort this out, and that is that when I moved a window across the cell that is supposed to show the repeated image in, the image do actually show up. I gather that this is a Netscape bug, and one would have to find another way around it, or some sort of fix for it.

Your suggestion does not work either htmlite.

One thing you might try is placing a DIV in that cell and define your background for the DIV instead of for the cell.

I had to do that for a cell background to work in NS 4.7 before. Might work here. [shrug]
