Question Midphase or LunarPages? Which would you recommend?

OK, after investigating nearly 30 hosts over the last month we're in the final...

Telephone support was essential for me and both hosts have answered the phone instantly ever time I've rang them, no matter what time of day.

Both have packages with multiple-domain hosting.

Both have generally positive reviews in this and other forums and also on other review sites.

LunarPages has rave reviews like no other host in this category, but their price is significantly more for the multiple domain package:

    Lunarpages: $25.50 - 4 GB storage - 200 GB bandwith
    Midphase: $12 - 7 GB storage - 'Unlimited' bandwith

    Both include a free domain.

Storage/bandwith llimits don't mean much to me because I know I will not fill them.

Was wondering what other people's experiences had been with these two hosts please?

    Thanks a million

Most people, believe it or not, go for Luarpages and Midphase just for thier
    plans (BIG storage/Bandwitdh)

    even powweb.com and globat.com.

But since you mentioned that phone support was essential, and both host passed your 'test", if need be, i would suggest Lunarpages.

I've used Lunarpages.com they are good but I think I had a small problem with them about backup I'm not sure what was the problem exactly but it was a minor one
Heard good stuff about midphase too but I think Lunarpages is better !

I've used neither, but from looking at their sites and reading the reviews here, there are mutterings about both companies, but generally they seem to have a good reputation.

I must admit Mid-Phase's Unlimited Bandwidth policy scares me. Mostly because they don't elaborate on what sites are not elegible for their unlimited bandwidth policy. That said, the fact they include atleast 65 GB per month for sites that don't qualify makes unlimited bandwidth somewhat redundant.

Lunarpages includes a whopping 100GB per month in their starter plan, this also scares me.

It leaves me asking are who is their upstream provider? Are they reliable? Is their network congested?

Finally I ask myself, why are LunarPages that much more expensive than MidPhase? Are MidPhase cheap (perhaps too cheap?) or are Lunar Pages expensive (perhaps too expensive?)

There may be reasonable and very satisfactory answers to these questions, but these are the important questions to ask. My suggestion is to ask each of them.

    Compare their replies.

The more time passes, the more I think the same way.

Mostly because they don't elaborate on what sites are not elegible for their unlimited bandwidth policy.
    From http://www.midphase.com/html_files/terms_of_service.php
    14.3 midPhase Unmetered Bandwidth Policy
midPhase provides Unmetered bandwidth for Mega-PHASE, Xtra-PHASE and Pro-PHASE customers. Because of the potential for abuse, midPhase has put into place the following policy which governs the use of our Unmetered Bandwidth Policy.

There are two classifications for midPhase-hosted websites. These are:
    a. Unmetered Eligible, and
    b. Unmetered Ineligible

To be classified as "Eligible" your website must follow the following rules:

    * 90% or more of your images, download files, etc. must be linked from an HTML or equivalent web page that is accessible to the public.
    * Your website is comprised mostly of web pages, and images used on those pages.
    * Your website is NOT primarily designed to provide files for download.
    * Your website is NOT adult in nature.

If your website is any of the following, it will be Ineligible for Unmetered Bandwidth and will be provide a bandwidth limit of 60 GB per month for Mega-PHASE, 65 GB per month for Xtra-PHASE or 75 GB per month for Pro-PHASE.

    * If your website is a download website (designed primarily to provide files for download by visitors,) or is an adult website, a website comprised of an image gallery only, a website which contains a message board as its primary 'attraction' or any websites that contain shopping carts with over one hundred items are not eligible (ineligible) for Unmetered Bandwidth and will be assigned limits as stipulated above.

    * Unmetered Bandwidth Increases. All midPhase accounts will start with their normal packages bandwidth limit. Once you have used 80% of your bandwidth, simply contact tech support for an increase. At this time, we will verify the type of account you are on and insure that you are eligible for unmetered bandwidth and then increase it by an equal-to-original increment.

    I`ll always recommend Lunarpages .

It comes with unlimited databases from its starter package .

But midPhase`s Mega-PHASE plan comes with only one database and Pro-PHASE plan comes with only three databases.

So , all Developers are switching to Lunarpages now a days.

In my humble opinion, you should take a look at HostGator. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

I have hosted with Lunarpages for over a year, I moved to them due to an increase in bandwidth, they have been excellent. Their support is excellent and I have had no problems at all with them.

In contrast I hosted another site with hostgator two weeks ago, the site has gone down 3 times whilst I was browsing it. Very unreliable.

Their support was good though and they gave me a full refund.

I actually host midphase and since I'm past 30 days, I can't get a full refund. I'm not sayign that everything about the host is bad, but certain features that they charge extra for is annoying. The thing that actaully irks me the most, is they they use horde as their email client for webmail. Stats weren't updated daily, it seems as I've contacted them a few times already for this. Not the best experience I was expecting. The unlimted bandwidth is tricky marketing as when you hit a certain amount of bw you have to call them up for them to turn on traffic again. This has already been mention elsewhere in these forums as well.

    Angry Go with Lunar!

I know they have to be better than Midphase. See earlier post:

Just got screwed by them. I had a site with them for 1 yr.Great Initial low cost turns to high costs to add on, email is horrible, and customer service is non-existent. And auto renewal is a fraud. Still trying to get my money - I cancelled a few days later than their policy says. I filed Better business Bureau complaint and credit card dispute. Read the 16 pages of fine print on their terms and conditions. Their customer service is the WORST. Watch out for this guy named "MARK". Seems like one guy in billing whi is an ahole. STAY away from these guys, they rip you off. Here's one of their reply's:

"Understand it is not our business to take advantage of you, nor is it
our intentions. We do, however, have a business need to collect what
is rightfully ours and we base these decisions entirely on your
account history and compliance with our Terms of Service policy."

    Dan Ushman
    Billing Manager
    AND....

Since you have disputed the charge with your credit card company we
have no choice in this matter.

Once we receive the charge back notice we will supply all the details
    to your credit card company.
You will also be sent to collections and will be reflected on your credit.

    Thank you,

    Mark

If you don't end up going with hostgator (another vote), I'd go with lunarpages. I've heard quite a few more good reviews about their services.
