Accessing a mysql database on a server

I've done work with mysql databases and php on my computer with apache and such, but never with databases on a server. I was wondering what ways i have to access the mysql database on the server. I don't think i have telnet access, but i've never used telnet before so i could have been doing something wrong. There is way to do it by logging in to my prohosting.com account and doing it from there (its like a phpmyadmin thing), but i would rather do it through a dos prompt like i do on my computer. Thanks.

Ask your web hoster if they allow telenet or ssh (secure shell). If you have a choice, use ssh. If they don't, then you're stuck with MyPHPAdmin or what ever they provide.

If your mysql account is setup for remote connections you can use mysql with the -h (host) parameter to access it remotely.
