html email
Hi there
I'm about to run an html email campaign.
The html email pulls images off a website - my question is:
Do users need to have a live connection to view the images in the email - or are they embedded in some way - and - if I create an email that has links to 100KBs worth of images does that mean that each individual email I send will be 100Kb?
I'm concerned about the load on my server when I send the emails out.
Thanks for any help/advicegorillaweb is a small London based digital design agency.

The user will have to be connected on the internet to view the images, and although the email itself will not include the size of the images, each time someone gets and reads the email they'll pull the images off of your server.

Thanks for your reply.
OK so does that mean when I send it it will be 100Kb in size (if it links to 100Kb of images)? My point is if I send 1000 of these in one go does that mean I'm sending 1000 X 100KB and therefore putting a lot of stress on the computer/network that I'm sending the emails from?gorillaweb is a small London based digital design agency.

No, the email itself will only be the size of the text. So when you send the email it'll be like 1kb x 1000 emails. However, when people read the emails they'll get the images from your server, which will then take 100kb of bandwidth. So here's an example breakdown of your brandwidth:
9:00am - Sent emails out - 1000kb (1kb of text x 1000 emails)
9:01am - John Smith opens his email - 100kb
9:02am - Mary Anne opens her email - 100kb
9:15am - Billy Bob opens the email - 100kb
etc.
If only three people read the email, you'll only use 1300kb of bandwidth total, but if everyone does you'll use 1000 x 100kb (images) + 1000 x 1kb (email text) = 101,000kb.ck :: bringing chris to the masses.

Whoops, that wasn't very useful...
1. Staggering emails means that only those people who are interested are consuming your bandwidth.
2. If you have 100% response that would be amazing
