    SPLIT: PHPPatterns.com down?

I dunno what happened in the other thread, but apparently we can't be adults here.

Oh, anyways, I've tried contacting Harry with an offer to donate some space/bandwidth on my dedicated server to host PHPPatterns. The site is such a useful resource to the PHP community it would be a shame to see it disappear into oblivion. I didn't know how to reach him, so I used SitePoint's contact author form. Hopefully he gets it (I haven't heard from him yet), but incase he does not, does anyone know an email to directly contact him at (please PM if you can)?

I've noticed in the past that sometimes I can't connect but it always seems to come back up again (touch wood).

Yeah I've noticed this too, but this seems to be the longest it's ever been down that I've noticed.

I've been trying to get ahold of the MVC articles there for many weeks now without any luck. So I guess I'll have to deal with what I found on Google's cache for the original MVC article, but the revised version here is basically just a link to some updated code that of course is not cached. Does anyone have this? Also google images will only show me some unreadable thumbnails of the diagrams

yep it still looks like it is down. I haven't heard anything yet from Harry on my offer for donating some hosting space. We'll just have to be patient is all.

I'm sure something like this has been proposed, but what about creating a site along these lines that's community driven? A half dozen or so folks could work as technical editors to make sure that the site maintained a certain quality level. It would be great if Harry would be interested in donating his work to such a site to help give it a base of content to build off of.

Maybe phpPatterns.com could become that site, or maybe something else. Just seems to me that there's not very many really good pattern/standards sites out there for PHP. Maybe as a community we need to take responsibility for that and start creating them.

I'll through my hat in the ring as someone who'll help out.

Definitely. I should be able to provide webspace at devnetwork.net, if needed.

I hope that the content on phppatterns can be maintained online, somewhere or other.

I have contacted Harry recently, particularly regarding several offers for hosting of phppatterns. He is very burried with some real life things at the moment, but wants to get both phppatterns and jpspan back up and rolling when he gets the time to devote to them. Hopefully that will be soon

Great Someone was asking me about Registry just last night and I couldn't point them to Marcus' testable singleton version.

not working for me... Could be a DNS change that my ISP does not see yet.

I don't even remember what it was that I was going to lookup now...

man.... for next Sitepoint's nominations if there's a "most boring thread" category, I think this one can be a serious contestant

Very long time. Sorry to anyone who's been trying to get in touch and got no response. Simple fact is ran out of time for P2P messages and many other things.

phppatterns will hopefully be back up in the nearish future. Hoping hosting discussions Jason has help me with work out. Have migrating all content now to Dokuwiki - http://wiki.splitbrain.org and and just waiting for a place to put it. In doing so, was re-reading some of the articles and thinking - "Man - that sucks". In some ways very embarrasing. Anyway - hopefully as a wiki, that will change.

Otherwise may be a bit more frequent at Sitepoint again. Hope so.

Good to hear from you again Harry. Also good to hear that phppatterns may be back up in the near future. It had become the definitive out-of-date resource for patterns based PHP development. It just shows the sorry state of patterns based PHP development, so updating phppatterns will be a real benefit to the community.

Nicely put ;-) Problem was working out a way to get myself out of the loop - should have moved to a wiki long ago but long ago I hadn't discovered Dokuwiki
