    Making appointments online

    Hi all,

I have a client interested in allowing customers to make appointments online. He does in-home services, so basically he goes to people's houses all over the city to perform services. Quite a large area is covered.

I was hoping someone out there will know where I might be able to find an existing script/service provider that would allow the person to input their address, then based on that address, calculate the time it would take for him to arrive there from existing appointments, and show them openings based on that.

I've looked in hotscripts.com, around the net, in the FAQ here, and did a search and came up with nothing.

Anyone know anyplace? Or ya think I might need to outsource a programmer?

    sitediva,

One approach you may be able to take is to find a script (or write one) that interfaces with Mapquest or Yahoo! Maps. I believe that both of these providers allow you to pass an address via the URL/query string, basically a starting point and an ending point. What would result is an actual Mapquest page, of course, but that can include distance and estimated driving time. You may want to contact either one of them to see if they have a "private label" version or custom interface. My guess is that if they do, it may be quite cost-prohibitive, though.

I really doubt you're going to find a readymade solution.
