Kevin Yank's NEW PHP & MySQL Book!

Very soon we will be launching Kevin Yank's NEW Book:

"Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL"

The 242 page hard-copy book will contain totally revised material from the highly popular online tutorial, plus new bonus chapters and a full set of handy reference guides for PHP and MySQL. The full code archive will also be available for download FREE to readers.

For those of you who are attached to the old online tutorial, this week is your last chance to view the full article online. The book will supercede the online version of the tutorial.

You can view the old tutorial online at: http://www.webmasterbase.com/article/228/

I hope that you will support Kevin with his first publication. He has spent several months re-writing and compiling the new material at the request of many online readers. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the result!

Watch this space for the launch...

We'll be limiting what we leave online to the beginners PHP/MySQL content. The more advanced PHP/MySQL material will be available in the book. So the online article in effect will represent an introduction to the topic. The book is for the more serious punters who want to take the next step after reading the article.

Also book owners will get special access to all the code examples demonstrated in the book. Obviously this speeds up the process of implementing the code on your own site as you read through the book examples.

Loved the article, as it really jump started me coding in PHP, and understanding MySQL. I will probably pick up a copy (I was wondering if Kevin was ever going to put all of his articles into one 'coding collage') - he provides great content at sitepoint.

Where can I get a copy?

Sit tight, Chad! We'll announce availability in the next 10 days. Either check back here, or keep an eye on SitePoint.com or any of our three newsletters for details.

What sort of Market Research have you guys done on this? Have you seen that there is a demand for this book? I want to get it, but will it be sold in Bookstores? Who is the publisher?

    Congrats Kevin...

I too got my start in database sites in general from this tutorial.

We wouldn't be publishing it otherwise, now would we?

I want to get it, but will it be sold in Bookstores? Who is the publisher?
We're publishing the book ourselves. At least to begin with, the book with be exclusively available by ordering online from SitePoint.com. So just watch this space and you'll be able to order it as soon as it's available!

The price will be announced along with the book. As I write this, we are still working to get the best possible shipping cost arranged, so I can't quote any exact figures at this time.

If you order as soon as it's announced, you could have the book in your hands in about two weeks!

We don't have an announcement list for the book release at this time. However we will be making announcements in our different Newsletters and on the SitePoint.com index page and here in the forums.

We'll also announce it in this thread, so if you have selected to be notified by email when people add to this thread, you should be set.

So a book that teaches you PHP and MySQL does not have a mailing list to tell you when it is comming out?

    I find that quite ironic.

    the current newsletters are sufficient.

I hope the book doesn't cost all that much because I'd like to get a copy when it's out too.

I've already found his article to be a great reference. I even had the article printed and bound (equipment at my dad's place of work, so it was free of course) so I use it as a reference as much as my other programming books -- came out to 128 pages on their printer.

I do this a lot with long reading materials off the internet. I get free access to a lot of expensive ebooks as a newsletter publisher and most of them I have printed and bound and keep them just like books to use

I'm sure you can appreciate that a PHP / MySQL book is expected to have a newsletter.

Your book clearly has a lot of interest, just because *some* of those people are on other newsletters you control does not mean you can't have a newsletter specifically for your book.

Doesn't this thread serve that purpose well enough? People can subscribe and receive email notification of new posts, ask questions about the upcoming release... what else do you need? Yes we could easily set up an email notification service for the book release, but it seems to me like it would be redundant.
