    An idea of what i am stepping into

    I have been studying web design for some time now and i have got to a level which i feel is professional.

    I am going to set up as a web design company and offer my services to small and large businesses.

    I am competent enough with my work but i am immensely worried about if there is enough work to go around?
    How is everyone doing? I have heard that since the slowdown in economy and the fact that most companies allready have a website that work is getting harder and harder to find.

    Also i have heard that even very talented and experienced web designers, database engineers, scripting masters ,etc - are having trouble finding work.

    What kind of market am i stepping into? Is it a sinking boat?

    Could anyone advise as of what to expect?

    Many thanks

    New companies start up every day, in every market. Most of them need design services, of which websites are a part. There might be a slowdown, but I don't think that this field will ever go away. People will always need websites.

    Also, keep in mind, that most companies don't have enough money to hire a full-time webmaster/developer. That makes it much easier to find work (and consequently, more dinero) because they simply hire, for a given amount of time, someone who they feel is competent. So, you could work for several companies, each requiring your services at a given time, and it will be like you're employed full time. See what I'm getting at? Additionally, despite all of the "Internet is dead; companies are bankrupt" claptrap, the Internet is really just beginning. So don't worry about it all that much. Instead, focus on getting that job.

    agree("Aes", "creole");

    Also, many sites are in need of redesign every now and then, so even if they have a site they could still use you.
