I currently have a 100/10 router which cannot be upgraded to gigabit, so I would to try a different method. I am basically enquiring into how a switch works.
If i put a gigabit switch onto the network using only the 100 meg uplink, what would happen to the speed on the gigabit switch? Would devices that are linked to the switch gain gig speeds? or would it not be possible to gain gigabit speeds at all?
whatever is attatched should work at the full gigabit speed if it is capable of it. However anything hat can only run TBase100 will only run at 100 Megabit. if your uplink is only 100Mbit then you will only gain benefit from devices attatched directly to the hub.
