    does anyone know where I can download a copy of redhat?
    i wanna install that and apache on my comp here.

    Have you tried Redhat.com ? Their FTP site should have the ISO's

    someone just popped the d/l like to me. thats it.
    and a good friend of mine suggested that mandrake would be the best for the absolute linux newbie.

    anyone agree?
    recommendations for a person who'd only used windows before?

    i'm d/l'ing linux cause php + winblows = *splat*
    wanna install apache and php on my comp so i can experiment localy

    I have no experience of Mandrake that I can share with you. However, I have heard this said about Mandrake before. If you do a search for Mandrake you will find many previous posts that have discussed its merits.

    Don't use Mandrake..I hated it.

    Corel Linux is nice for beginners though.
