I'm sure I'll annoy the anti-MS crowd, but I am very impressed with it thus far.
I think it is great that we can use compiled languages. Speaking of which, C# looks good, I'm not too sure about VB.Net though, I've never been too fond of that family of language. I might yet change my opinion, especially now that they've made variables strongly typed in VB.Net, but I'll need to take a closer look.
The controls do look interesting, and of course the ease of implementing web services isn't too shabby.
I'm not too sure if it will "change the world" though. I'm rather fond of the J2EE platform too...

Hi,
I think they do have the market share and dominance to make this HUGE.
I just really hope they dopn't go down the JAVA path they got in trouble for with sun.
If they stay reasonably honest I think it will be a hit!.NET Code Monkey

as far as I know MS will stop supporting java because sun has only licenced them with a early version so they pretty much told them where to go.
C# will be the big one out there ina few years, unless anything better marketed comes along (not I said marketed!)

The Beta2 of the .Net framework was released a few weeks ago.
There is a ASP.NET Premium Edition download at http://www.msdn.microsoft.com/downlo...xml&frame=true
I suggest that you write everything in a simple editor, like Developers Pad until you learn the new features of ASP.NET. Then I suggest you learn Visual Studio.NET(Beta 1 was full of bugs as well. I haven't tested the new version yet)
Wrox will be publishing several books on ASP.NET. The first book is called Beginning ASP.NET. I've worked as a technical reviewer on it, and I found it very good. It covers everything you need to develop with ASP.NET, including Web Services, User Controls etc.

Wrox books have always worked for us. We've just picked up a copy of Professional ASP.Net last week.
