I have equal respect for all music genres.
    Except for Country, of course.

May Kearney doesn't qualifies as Hip Hop, per the distinctions above.

    Rap, maybe.

Bad example, since Holler and Dollar do rhyme. Holla/Dolla is a regional dialect thing, mostly in the south and somewhat in the northeastern US where people have thick Boston accents

    Better example:

Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is
He ain't gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his livin' off of the people's taxes

    Classic rap.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't qualify him as hiphop. Yeah, he raps in some of the songs, but hiphop is *more* than just rapping-- it has to have that sound particular to the genre.

Surely the first part there is subjective, but could you kindly explain the second part there? While I don't like most rap, I don't see how it is not music.

I used to say that, tooŚ"Rap isn't music." I also used to be an uneducated retard.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and our reality becomes illusion. If I told the masses where we are at, or where we are going, I would shatter the social balance of the world as we know it. I'm talking about the grand deception of 1947 when our souls were sold to the heavens for: technologically advanced weapons, crystal-enhanced brain implaints, and mind control methods. MJ-12 is not majestic! And the focal point of our problems on this planet are not domestic. You can accept it or be stupid and be a skeptic and fail to recognize the secret society's death-wish. 97% of our presidents were masons responsible for laundering trillions of dollars from the nation for the construction of undeground military installations, abductions, and cattle mutilations. Experiments on human patients which take place in several subterranian bases, 150 stories below your basement. With knowledge of genetic information, you need to fear science not Satan. Because through the manipulation of certain biological agents they create strange creations. Top-Secret: special operations, low frequency sounds, and lasers. People, like Carl Sagan, that didn't believe in the Drake equation were trying to keep the western civilization on a "need to know" basis. Well, you "need to know" that this is a game! And we're being betrayed and played in the worst way.

    ----------

That is not Rap, it is Hip Hop. Granted many will not care for the extraterrestrial theories; however, it is a great example of where Hip Hop and Rap part from eachother. The verse above takes intelligence, personal feelings, gut instincts, and peices them together in a fassion that many will enjoy listening to. That takes talent.

I believe Rap takes talent too, but I don't think it requires as much as Hip-Hop, or any of the musical genres whose roots can be traced back to Blues or Country.

Edit: For those who care, that is a song by Canibus and it is called Channel Zero.

I'm not going to weigh in on whether I think rap music or not.

Mat Kearney sounds like Coldplay meets Jazon Mraz meets G. Love & Special Sauce.
He has solid lyrics and vocals.

While hip-hop is not my typical flavor choice of music, good music crosses all genres.

Don't worry about the *boob* who wrote those comments. As you can see by the way he slammed hiphop and rap, his problem isn't with the genre specifically; it's who he *thinks* listens to it. He's a bigot. According to him, only *ghetto* people, whiggers, and uneducated retards. That's funny-- when *most* people explain why they don't a genre, they explain their dislike in terms of the music itself or their personal preferences. ("It's boring to me..." "It's not my style." "The beat is too fast or slow...") This guy, OTOH, could only explain why he dislikes rap/ hip hop in terms of who he thinks listens to it.

    megamanXplosion, love your post!

Well, next time you decide to be a troll, could you come up with a nuanced position that generates some interesting discourse?

I ask because your little rehash of mid 80s stereotypes bored the crap out of me.

It was all I could come up with, sorry... next time I'll try a little harder!

I thought that approach might be a good route to take this time...

It's been a while since I found a topic worthy of crapping on.

    No!

First, the Nets have clinched, that's pretty much the opposite of "suck". If you want to criticize them you'll have to be more specific.
Second, forum application disputes are old news on webmaster forums.

You know, I'm thinking you might just want to focus on be sincere and insightful in your posts, I'm not sure the whole troll thing is working for you.
