    Is there a god?

The discussion in the 'Who Do You Hate thread?' inspired this poll.

I believe there is positive and negative energy and some people would maybe call the positive one "God" and the negative one "Satan". But as my "religion" is somewhat different from Christianity I voted "I don't know".

No, it's not murder. (Here we go again... )

aspen is right. There have been a lot of controversial threads in the General Chat lately. I don't think that's bad unless people who don't agree with each other's opinions in these threads refuse to help each other in the web building threads. In that case we have a huge problem.

It is life, but a very low form of life in the beginning.

Should we have a poll asking if we want an abortion thread in General Chat? (Or are people fed up with these kind of threads?) We should probably not discuss abortion in this thread...

A very low form of life - ouch, that's harsh.

Probably best not go down this road - it'll just lead to lots of people getting upset and/or angry.

    OK...
    <flame on>

If Abortion is legal (and therefore not murder in the eyes of the law), then why was the killer of a pregnant woman charged with TWO counts of murder? I don't believe in abortion, but I want to law to be consistent. Either is IS murder or it's not. You can't have it both ways.

    Leanings

I lean toward their being a god because I cannot explain why we are here.

    But I just don't know.

I see so many terrible things happening and I wonder why?

Is the universe just an entertainment center for some higher power?

Cause it's her choice whether or not to have an abortion, Creole.

As for the original topic, I don't know.

It's the killers choice to shoot, so what? There is no logic behind the verdict. It is not consistent.

OK, people, you WANT an abortion thread. I will start one, so please move the abortion discussion there. In this thread, let's go back to the original question: is there a god?

So I presume you are similary upset by the destruction of life that is necessary for the enjoyment of a big mac, or even (if you take the argument to the "low form of life" level), by the massacre that occurs for you to enjoy a salad?

I've said no, because I'm pretty sure there isn't. OTOH, I'm not absolutely certain so I might be an agnostic. But that's too wishy-washy, sit-on-the-fence for me. I reckon 'no'.

It all depends on your meaning of god... What is god? Christians say it some guy up in the sky that created all of us. Some Spiritualists would say its everything that exists in this universe and every dimension.

I just say believe in yourself and you have nothing to lose!

Personally I think there are infinit amount of things out there. And if you are standing in infinity, then you are at the center of it all. So, you can call yourself god. Don't think you have special powers or am better than anyone else, just think that you are the one experiencing this life, so what else do you have to depend on but yourself?

I could lean towards the spiritualist point of view as well. How everything is one, we all work together perfectly, every single little action happens for a reason to cause a chain reaction that will change the world forever. And every little action today was caused by actions and situations from the past.

Who knows? Its whatever will get you by in this life. Whatever makes you happy. Because during life there is no point in wondering, there is a point in believing, Belief is a very powerful thing.

By the way, Jehovah (originally Yahweh in Hebrew) means "I am". So "I" and "God" can be the same thing. That would support manipura's theory.

actually it was YHWH, there being no "vowels" in some forms of Hebrew. It's called the Tetragrammaton.
The four-letter Hebrew name of God is afforded a very special status in Jewish texts. As with certain other names of the Deity, it is forbidden to erase the Explicit Name once is it written, out of respect for its sanctity. However, the four-letter name, the Tetragrammaton, has unique properties which qualify it as a symbol unto itself, not simply a concatenation of the letters which comprise it.

    from here:

(THE) LORD; KJV, "Jehovah" (je-ho'va; Heb. YHWH, LXX; usually ho Kurios). The name of God most frequently used in the Hebrew Scriptures but commonly represented-- we cannot say rendered-- in the KJV and NIV by LORD. Pronunciation. The true pronunciation of this name, by which God was known to the Hebrews, has been entirely lost...

It all depends on what your view of the WORD "GOD" is... If you think its a higher power then I do think they are out there. But if you think god is someone that is smarter (knows things we coulnd't comprehend) There are probably people walking this planet that can do things you didn't imagine could be done!
Thats it... I'm starting a new post

God simultaneously exists and does not exist.

Therefore, people who say "God exists" are correct. Those who say "There is no God" are correct. ANd those who don't know whether God exists or not, are also correct.
