Hi I'm willing to invest in SEO but I've been reading an article that there are lots of companies outthere who aren't worth the money.
So, my question would be, is there anyone outthere who could advice an SEO I could trust?
Thanks in advance![]()

Here is what I would suggest. Find the SEO who can get to the top of the search engines in a popular search term like SEO or SEO Consulting. Any person who has to pay to get a listing in Google Adwords under SEO should be looked at skepticaly. If they are worth their weight in salt then they will have a top listing for ultra competitive keywords.
So when you are evaluating an SEO, ask them to show you sites where customers of theirs are rated near the top. Are they impressive like a top 10 listing for "Web Hosting" in Google or less competitive like a top 20 listing in a lesser search engine for a useless phrase like "green doggy rhubarb pie".
The point is figure out how to evaluate whats hard to do and whats easy so you can determine if the people are good or not.
Sometimes you might see someone offer to get you top 20 positioning but then tell you to choose lots of keywords (keyword phrases). What you want them to guarentee is a top 10 position in keyword (keyword phrase) combinations that have more then x# of searches per month. No point in getting a top 20 for a search term that yields very few results.
http://www.promodo.com/ is an example of a company that came up 13th in Google under a very competitive keyword "SEO". That is pretty impressive for a site that is not offering information to the public like a directory or forum. What they offer and their prices seem resonable, although they make no promises it does seem like they know what they are doing if they are where they are in Google.
Hope this helps
thats good advice, if the SEO company isn't on the first 2 or 3 pages under the key word SEO, then I wouldn't bother. But I would assume all those places are going to be pretty expensive too.
Personally I try doing it myself. #1 spot on google for "Jedi LIghtsaber"![]()

Good point to judge. Ask him how much his site ranks for the term related to SEO.The point is figure out how to evaluate whats hard to do and whats easy so you can determine if the people are good or not.

Before approaching any SEO firm you need to checkout their portfolio and client base and their procedure of working with the clients. It's quite hard to optimize sites for a particular niche and how easy the seo consultants can handle it within a time frame is an important factor to be taken care of.

Greetings!
Search engine optimization is a tricky skill. There are a lot of companies out there promising to get you to the top of the SERP's but only optimize keywords which are somehow specific to your website.
I believe the best search engine company is a company that shows you a detailed analyses about your website, your target audience and the targetted keywords for your site. They should also be able to tell you how many searches are done for these list of keywords every month.
What good is a top 10 result in a certain keyword/keyphrase if that is only actually searched by an average of 100 per month?
Another important note: You should have a very good website (in terms of sales aspect). Most sites are able to get it to the top 10 search results but their sales are not that good. It is therefore important that a search engine company should be able to tweak your site content without reducing the effectiveness of your sales content.
More power!

Why dont you also focus on the less competitve sectors of the internet. Try to create a business model for your site, run an partners or affialiate programs, They would bring targetted traffic to your site. Plus will give an oppurtuntiy to you and others to earn.
Without a business model your site will be lost in the crowd. Imagine there are millions of sites all over and "YOUR COMPETITOR IS JUST A CLICK AWAY". They wont come again if its a "UNPLEASENT EXPERIENCE"![]()
Try to make your site multilingual, atleast add one international language "English".![]()

How do you plan on doing that. You can only guess, or estimate those numbers, since google doesnt give hits/month away for every keyword, and you can't just say this keywords has 10k hits/month on overture, overture has a market share of 30%, so this keyword has 93k hits overall. It just doesnt work that way. You can use G's adwords tool to check impressions on keywords but they keep the actual number of searches very private.Originally Posted by consul
The best a SEO can do is help his client pick out the right search phrases to optimize for, by analyzing a number of factors.
One way to determine if the company provides great SEO is by reviewing the websitesTITLE tag. A great SEO will have his most competitive Keyword phrase at the beginning of his home page Title. Complete some research on the home page and some of the other internal pages and if they are ranking high for them you will have to see about the competitivness, revelancy and traffic that is gained by these keyword phrases.

good tip, and some SEO companies may have some case studies on SEO wich you can test in the same way.Originally Posted by In10sity
