Need Help... im sooo boring ;)

Hi all, im in the process of a huge new sitewide re-developement, im still throwing ideas together before the php backend/template system is coded up..

    I run a site called e-tones... take a peek http://www.e-tones.co.uk/index2.htm

Now, I've come up with this: http://www.e-tones.co.uk/beta/

Many of the graphics/logos are temp, just to see how the layout will look..

Ay ideas, as a start page its looking very bare, tooo bare, what can I add/change? Its the main content section in the center thats got me, I dont want to overload users as I want them to explore, but just dunno what to put there to make it look goood!!

    Please help, cheers all!

This MAY belong in the Website Reviews section. I'm not really sure.

That having been said, I don't really have any comments besides it looks too much like amazon.com.

What's wrong with the old design? Perhaps a little busy, but that can be fixed easily. I'd just stick with what you have and improve it from there.

Definitely an Amazon look-alike. Well, to get away from the Amazon look, change your colors. That blue and yellow are definite throw-backs. Also, the tab across the top needs to go. Try a different nav bar style, or change the look of the tabs. I think doing the site in a red and white color scheme with black highlights would look grand. You'd have to change the color of the logo, but if you did the header in red and made the white tabs protrude up into the red header it would look great. Just some ideas.

Thanks all, im wanting to stick with the Blue as i love it

The design elements can definately change, the thing is its going to be a huge site, as the tabs are at the moment, I can create them on the fly with php, add extra elements easily, thats a major factor..

The finished product is going to be mainly PHP, lots of it... What im after in design is something that can be produced quicky and on the fly...

the tabs are set by simply changes the background and text colours...

The old design... boy.. its over one year old

I suppose dont break things that work, but for us it doesnt work anymore... We need to add ALOT of new tweaks, extras, enhancements etc to the site, the old design wont allow it

Also, alomost all of my visitors seem to hate frames, I dont see why, I felt they were used well on the etones site, ahh well, some people eh

Have you checked out the new beta?

    http://www.e-tones.co.uk/beta/

    Old one here:

    http://www.e-tones.co.uk/beta/index_1.htm

I kinda like this design, screams functionality, upgradablity, useability and more... please dont make me make another

Shown is the core design that will appear through the site, what changes dya think could be made to get away from the amazon like feel, now all tab based sites scream a little amazon in them, they pioneered the idea after all....

    Thanks all....

Tabs were around before Amazon (think Phone/Address Book?!).

Try changing the style of the tabs.

I agree - the previous site made good use of frames but I personally hate frames.

Well, if you like the design, and don't mind having the Amazon Lawyers knocking on your door sooner or later - go for it...
