Question flash <embed> and w3c validation

    Hi All,

I have read in these forums about problems using the <embed> tag with XHTML doc types, but my site fails to validate using the normal dreamweaver doc type:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

The validator gives me the following results:

Line 195, column 17: there is no attribute "SRC"
Line 195, column 50: there is no attribute "QUALITY"
Line 195, column 69: there is no attribute "PLUGINSPAGE"
Line 195, column 120: there is no attribute "TYPE"
Line 195, column 158: there is no attribute "WIDTH"
Line 195, column 171: there is no attribute "HEIGHT"
Line 195, column 176: element "EMBED" undefined

Notice it is all referencing the same line of code:

    <embed src="flash/CVS_Header_4.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="504" height="136"></embed>

This is the standard line of code that dreamweaver automatically inserts for a SWF flash file.

I have experimented with other doc types including one that W3C recommends:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"

But this created even more problems with the rest of my code in IE6...

Thanks in Advance...I am completely at a loss...

    validation errors

I write XHTML transitional, and I don't know off-hand when it became standard, but I can not use Upper Case attribute names. Maybe try writing some in lower case and see if the errors go away.

sorry - using HTML 4.01 Transitional

sorry, I should have made myself clearer.

I am using HTML 4.01 Transitional - using the search function I could only find in these forums info about problems with XHTML.

But I am still getting the errors using HTML 4.01 Transitional..

    thanks

    Red face interesting

    wow what an interesting article.

Thank you very much for the link.

half way through the article I was thinking...what the hell....this sounds like its not going to work at all....but with a little extra effort I think it is worth it....and how about the flash alternative image!! I have been using 200 lines of javascript to do that.....

I will have to suss it out and make sure it works...

    Thanks again.
