    protocol to dial phone# from web interface

    Is there a additional telephony protocol needed, outside of using php, to dial a user entered phone# from web interface, but talking through that call (VoIP) is not needed, just ringing the phone.

    On a nix, where the modem is connect at /dev/ttySx, you could (I believe the protocol is called Hayes)

    PHP Code:
    $fp fopen('/dev/ttySx''rw');
    fwrite($fp'ATDT0032498311488');
    But with a package like asterisk you can do much more

    Thanks for responding. I'm not sure this is a match with a shared hosting environment. That's what I'm wanting to understand, What this would look like, how this would work, what will be required.

    The computer would have to be hooked up to a dialup modem in order to dial out. After all, dialup was just phoning the ISP with a special format for the data. I don't know if it's possible without dialup.
