It would be a better idea to reinstall.

I'd recommend doing a clean install. You do have backup media, don't you?

The reason I recommend a clean install is this: I had some trouble installing Win2k (I was doing a clean install) so called up MS. They asked me if I was doing a clean install or installing over Win98. I said clean install and they said "phew!". So I suspect that the install over another OS is a bit buggy.

When I upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional, I did a clean install. I formatted the computer, and started from scratch.

Once you get to Windows 2000, you'll see that you computer runs faster and more efficent that ever, compared to Windows 95/98.

yeah d (chris), always do a clean install. The upgrade install is sooo buggy (90% of complaints about win2k are directly related to this).

    Not ethical , but legal.

I agree with everyone else, clean installs are always the best.
