Are wireless network cards always pci?

nope, you can get USB dongle and USP Pen types as well.Originally Posted by docquesting

Yes I understand that already. So far as the rest of the slots go what then? PCI only?

You mean an internal crad for a PC? do they do a different type of Wireless card for internal use?
If that is what you mean then the only one i can think of is the Asus version where they have a "special" wireless card, it does however make one PCI slot impossible to use.
Yup, it takes up the last PCI spot, but if you have an Asus I see no way you could possibly use that many PCI slots anyways.Originally Posted by Beaker
Hmm the only thing it could be is PCI, because AGP is spot for your graphics card primarly.

So if I have a current ethernet card in a pc that I want to replace with a wireless one I can rest assured to order a PCI to replace it? That is without checking first?

should be,
If you are worried then go to http://www.lavalys.com and download Everest Home Edition. It'll tell you what motherboard etc you are using.
Depending on the age of your MB it'll have at least 3 and upto 5 PCI slots.

Thanks yall I greatly appreciate it. By the way if ya want to post links of some d link cards and such for good prices ya could d link and linksys. I want something that linux will most likly pick up.

what version of Linux are you thinking of using?

Not sure if yet totally. Probably redhat if I do go that route I may just use Xp pro for now. I would like something though that if I do decide linux it would work.

google up the Fedora Core 4 HCL, or check on the manufacturer sites to see. I would be surprised if Netgear or Linksys don't produce the relevant drivers.
