Apache, PHP Compilation Segfaults

I'm getting randomly occuring (as far as I can tell) segmentation faults while building Apache and PHP. I've gotten the latest versions of gcc, cpp, and other gcc support executables. Any other suggestions for fixing this problem?

I have no idea what a segfault is but I know on our server we had a problem with compiling PHP since it wouldn't run with mod_fastcgi

Maybe, who knows?
