    Second that - great book.

However, I think you meant 6 cents rather than $6, and I think you are referring to manufacture cost rather than wage

z7, the program you watched may have been biased. Did they mention that those people working in the sweatshops chose to work there? Or that the wages they make are higher than what they'd make in most other jobs in their country? A buck may not be a whole lot in the U.S., but I figure it would go a long way in some third-world country. Hell, I'd rather be inside working a sewing machine than outside stomping on rice. And about the WTO. I live in downtown Seattle and was right in the middle of the riots (well, they were just disturbances, really). A lot of the rioters that I came across didn't even know what the WTO was about; apparently they were just there to cause trouble.

I can accept that but you should have seen the way these people were living.
Would you like to do 24 hour shifts with only 2 breaks?

I really don't know what to think here...obviously some people are being taken advantage of, but people are taken advantage of when they buy the BaconWave , too. I don't know that anything can be done if these people are truly choosing to work in these places. Alternatives?

Perhaps we can get more American businesses there. Ironically, one will take advantaged, but two could start a bidding war. If there's only one solid place for them to work, it doesn't have much of an incentive to pay well, does it?

Is it? We've got tons of American businesses here in America, and many people are paid quite well.

Out of interest - How many of your sporting goods companies sell 'home-grown' goods?
I am not turning this into an American issue - the British Government has a part to play as well.

I honestly do not have any raw stats here to back me up. What I'm basically saying is that I don't see these businesses as the problem, I think the fact that there's only one of them is the problem. Competition!

Tell you what the problem is - GREED.
I never liked GAP anyway - with those sucky-prepy ads.

I never liked GAP either, until recently when Levi's changed the design of their SilverTab jeans; the size that used to fit me no longer does, and their cuts are way outta whack (e.g., everything fits right but the butt is way too tight). Aaaanyhoo, GAP makes better jeans than Levi's and they make'em in Mexico. Hey, at least it's part of North America.

I picked up some Ralph Lauren jeans in Belks for $15 - down from $70. I bet they were still making a profit!
