    Unique visitors per day: 30
    URL: http://www.aboutpcs.com/
How long: 1 year (although it has changed direction about six billion times)

Right now it just has a few things I've been doing. I'm writing some more content (like an AOLserver tutorial for Apache admins) just for the fun of it to put up there, as well as a few Perl scripts.

    1. On average, around 30-40 per day
    2. www.postfive.com
    3. A little over 7 months

Although this is an extremely low hit rate, I'm quite happy with it. It's a specialist subject for one and it's usually only updated once or twice a week, so there's no real need for people to visit more than once a week or even once a fortnight. At the end of the day, I do this because I enjoy it. If people keep coming back because they like it, that's great. If they don't, it doesn't bother me. Hit rates only really matter if you're trying to make money from it, IMO, and I'm not.

Good for you! I think too many people are obsessed with hit rates and making money from affiliate programs and such like these days. I'm aware that the money earned is often to cover web hosting fees or isp costs, but surely there's more to life than worrying about how many visitors your hobby site is getting and whether or not they're clicking on your ad banners. If you need a bit of extra cash to stop your internet connection being switched off, try getting a paper round or baby-sit your neighbours kids or something!

Not all of us are running sites as a hobby, a good number of us do this as a living or are trying to.

On another note, hits and uniques can mean close to nothing, it's results and "quality traffic" that matter. Right now I receive about 2.5k unique genuine visitors a day, no tricks or lies. If I joined a couple top sites I could easily jump to 7k, but none of that traffic is what you would call "quality traffic". They're clickers, not buyers.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking people who are in this to make a living. I'd be a hypocrite if I was as I'm trying to get a webdesign business off the ground right now.

I just think it's a shame when I see some of the teenagers here seeming to put all their time and effort into making money from a website when they should be enjoying what's left of their childhood. <prepares to come under attack for using 'teenager' and 'child' in the same sentence >
