Vista or višta in lithuanian means chicken. Not a suitable name for sure.
Will it really be an OS?
even Win98 sounded more interesting...

Why? No trademarks and it's a different industry. Vista's a common word, bit hard to restrict usage.Originally Posted by pixelsoul

Damn - it is actually getting worse!
I am not sure if there is a original name... but I came across it when it was being called "Palledin", I liked the name.
Then it slipped down to Longhorn - I don't like it.
Vista? Now that really bites!
Nope, should have stayed with Palledin, what will the release name be, Windows sludge?
Palladin? I just checked the internal codename database and there's never been a codename for "Palladin" for any product.

M$ naming their OS releases by the name of Cattle is perfect for them. They are heavy, slow and when they do get angry they really case some serious damage :\Originally Posted by LSW

I have some links somewhere about palledin, will see if I can find them.

palledin was the partnership between Intel and Microsoft to provide system security on a hardware level.

This is good news...mass migrations to linux and apple
Microsoft Linux sound better, but alas...they don't think that's a viable model.![]()

I doubt anyone's going to change to *nix or apple just because they don't like the new name. I doubt any of you are going to 'not upgrade' because you don't like the new name too.![]()

You never know. A lot of mindless people might decide on what OS they use depending on the name or the company that released it. People do that daily with Mac OS X. Some hate it cause its apple they dont hate it because its bad or anything. The same with windows some Apple fans hate it because its by Microsoft.Originally Posted by benlowry

That sums up every OS and major software vendors products heh.Originally Posted by templates911

Ahhh, that sounds about right, the articles I had (damned if I can find the links) raised serious issues with your private information. Seems I recalled someone stateing that was the beginning of Longhorn, maybe i misunderstood at the time. Was a few years ago. Nobody in other forums seems to remeber Palledin either.Originally Posted by moonshield
Stll a cooler name then Longhorn or vista... LOL
Do you mean Palladium?Originally Posted by LSW

that was an EVIL idea. WOuld have switched me off Windows completely. As it is now i only use if for games anyway.Originally Posted by seanf

I liked the Longhorn logo/name... I was hoping they'd just stick with that. I guess normal people would be kind of confused (they'd think of carsOriginally Posted by LSW

it was the DRM technology i hated from the start, why should i be _forced_ to aquire licences for music i'm ripping so i don't have to get the CD out every time i want to listen to music? Also it isn't anyone's business but my own what software and hardware makes is in my computers.Originally Posted by M. Johansson
I liked the idea of the new WinFS if it was going to be more reliable, but as it isn't going to be incorporated into Longhorn i very much doubt i'll upgrade anyway. There seems little point from the information i've gathered in upgrading, except to get the "Latest and Greatest" from M$. In other words more features that most folks will never use.
1. Palladium does absolutely not, in any way, force you to acquire licenses CDs that you have ripped yourself. That is totally false.Originally Posted by Beaker
2. if you hate DRM, you do not necessarily have to hatePalladium. Palladium can be used to strengthen DRM, but so can a LOT of other technologies. Palladium can also be used for a multitude of other purposes than DRM, most of them far more interesting and significant than DRM.

"Hasta la vista" means, textually, "until I see you"
