Yeah... sorry, but "Vista" sounds really dorky. Acronyms are so much cooler.

I dont get this name some speculate that it is a "sign" Vista being VI-sta, VI roman numeral 6. Release 2006? Pretty much it is a terrible name for OS.

I think it was Engadget that remarked how fitting a name it is, as "vista" means, you know, something in the distance. Far, far away. Something akin to the Longhorn release date.

I get what engadget is saying, but just the sheer sound of "Windows Vista" makes me cringe.

Could tie something in with an actual window and the vista seen through it or something. But yeah... sounds like a car model or something. The Microsoft Vista. (No crash jokes, please.)

Or, maybe VI as in not-emacs, saying that emacs is... ok, I won't start a flamewar, never mind.

In my language (polish) there is a word "wiśta" (pronounced exactly like "vista), which has two meanings:

    1. "hang", second person plural, imperative
    2. "carry on", to a horse.

    Hmm...

It might be interesting to see what the final product is. They better release something really good if not Microsoft will continue to loose customers to Apple

I'm extremely tempted to run to Apple the next chance I get.

Ahh, so Vista means "pleasing view". So it's so called because the Windows Vista operating system is supposed to be very pleasing to the eye!

I don't like the name at all.
A better new name would be Doors XP.

I originally thought Longhorn sounded dorky somehow, though I've gotten somewhat used to it. But Windows Vista is a basket case.

Maybe VI is the first two letters of "viruses," which the programmers fear are going to devour Longhorn before customers get it out of the box???

    Hated Longhorn
Vista just reminds me of "asta le vista, baby"
Xp is ok, but that cant exactly name it XP the return or XP lives like a bad horror flick

I think doors would be cool but I cant see MS changing all those windows for doors, sides youd need alot more security or people would be falling out of the 5th floor.

Windows OSNL is my idea. Windows Open Source Not Likely

That's the first thing that I thought, lol. I also like OSNL, lol. (and it is Asta la vista)

I personally thought that Windows Longhorn sounded like a good name, one of the first code names I've actually liked. Everyone I every talked about it with (that weren't up to date on development, or who would care) thought that the name sounded pretty cool.

Windows Vista a) sounds like a car, b) sounds like someone from Miami made up the name, and c) just doesn't fit something "interesting." I think that they should have done something like Apple, except maybe dogs instead of cats.

    It reminds me with Alavista
IMO, not suitable name >> I'd rather Windows XT

Yea it reminds me of Altavista , too. ( which makes the OS sounds like another search engine to me)

They should've at least called it "Windows V" if they really want the "vista" in it.
