How does the vBulletin License work?

How does a vBulletin License prevent the person who owns the license from giving their copy of vBulletin to another person?

I don't see how vBulletin can prevent that from happening. I plan on making my own script like that (but not a forum script, just a script which needs a license). Can someone tell me what vBulletin does to make its License system work?

well, when you install it you add a license to the software so that's 1 verification. and the license number is available only in the members section, other than that they have activate private investigators who browse the web for illigal copies + they also have a form you can fill if you see an illigal copy.

vBulletin has a variety of things in their script to assist with preventing piracy. Any real downloads from licensed users have their customer/license number in the header of each vBulletin PHP file, and there are a number of callbacks in the admin area of vBulletin that 'call home' to their server.

The problem with vBulletin is that the code is 'viewable source', and anyone can simply remove the call back code. If you want to prevent piracy, you really need to encode your script to prevent the removal of any licensing code, with something like the ionCube encoder (www.ioncube.com) and/or the Zend Encoder/SafeGuard Suite (www.zend.com).

script has a call home feature which says "i am here at blabla.com"
if vbulletin has 2 calls for 1 license then they start to follow you
