    Is the browser upgrade campaign working?

    Anyone know if the browser upgrade campaign has accelerated the decline of the v4 browsers?

    According to my webtrends reports, there are increasingly more IE 5 users, but Netscape users seem to prefer 4 over 6.

    Code:
    -------->> Netscape Browsers <<--------
     , Browser, Hits, % of Total Hits, Visitor Sessions
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    1, Netscape 4.x, 15613, 96.65%, 380
    2, Netscape 3.x, 421, 2.6%, 8
    3, Netscape 5.x, 119, 0.73%, 13
    Total For Browsers Above, , 16153, 100%, 401

    -------->> Microsoft Explorer Browsers <<--------
     , Browser, Hits, % of Total Hits, Visitor Sessions
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    1, Explorer 5.x, 150460, 90.37%, 5223
    2, Explorer 4.x, 10378, 6.23%, 300
    3, Explorer 6.x, 5254, 3.15%, 80
    4, Explorer 2.x, 297, 0.17%, 20

    Looking at thecounter.com's global stats, Nav 4's market share has dropped by about 5% since January. (It looks like they have a slightly lower percentage of Nav 4 hits than you do.) I can't guess as to how much of that has to do with the WaSP browser upgrade campaign.

    And its interesting to see in your stats that IE6 is outperforming Nav6.

    Thanks for the data.

    WaSP is the Web Standards Project. Basically they are running a campaign to convince webmasters to create uncompatible pages and tell their visitors using old browsers to upgrade.

    All my personal pages

    are for version 5 or above. Unless i am doing something for a client i no longer make my sites perform well in NN4+...Yeah!!
    freedom.

    Many web site creators are taking the tack of making other pages available for the browser impaired, i may for clients sites, but for my own, if they can't see it the way it was intended, they can UPGRADE their browser!! or switch to one that works.

    just my2cents

    humanz

    ps--i do send them to the browser upgrade pages at ala to find out more ;-)
