    geo.position meat tag, whats it do?

    geo.position meat tag, whats it do?
    I saw one in some code on a site with a bunch of other geo stuff

    meta name="geo.position" content="-34.92;138.6">
    <meta name="geo.region" content="AU-SA">
    <meta name="geo.placename" content="Adelaide"

    The lat and long is there, does this work with google earth or something? Looks interesting to me, Id be interested to hear any comments.

    It's not for SEO. It looks like it is for some kind of application that would allow someone to pinpoint the location of that website (i.e. it's physical location).

    Yeah thats kinda obvious but what actually uses it??
    Google earth was what came to mind but Im not sure.

    There are ways to tie that data to Google Earth, yes. For example, here is a "Network Link" you can download and run in Google Earth that will show the 50 closest Flickr images, based on where you are looking at the time. It determines it from tags similar to those that you posted.
