Do free banner exchanges still work?

Do free banner exchanges still work? If so, could you perhaps name a few where I could sign up? Thanks in advance!

    Exclamation

I sort of found 'em myself in Google, but do they still work? If anyone could share some experiences, that would be gr8.

I used them back in the day and even ran one myself until a few years ago. They are a complete waste of time, unless you can find one with very selective/strict terms that admit only high quality sites. It would be better to exchange directly with a few select sites in your site category.

LinkBuddies.com used to be quite good, but these days, their clickthrough and conversion rates are absolutely abysmal. This type of advertising has been obsolete for a long time now.

I don't know I personally think that it does work if it's a really specific niche.

Even though clickthrough rate may seem low if your banner it set up correctly people might just type in the URL.

One of our sites we know that ctr is good but non linked references is also amazingly high.

So if the banner exchange is a specific market & you feel that your site is something everyone would want in that Market then yes it is worth your while to become a member.

I use a niche, targeted banner exchange on one of my sites ... what I do is, show the banner exchange banners on all the pages on my site, but use my impressions to send targeted traffic to a few of the deeper pages on one of the subsites that has a higher ROI than say the front page. So hopefully by doing that (and making sure the CTR on my banners is higher than the CTR on the banner exchange ads that I'm showing on the site) I'll come out ahead in the end

    ^HA.

Most of the free banner exchanges I've seen are too bloated.

I used them for a while a few years ago and got some decent traffic. Do not and would not use any more, I prefer the tedious process of exchanging individual links.
